Traditional Acupuncture is a system of medicine based on over 2000 years of developments and refinements in China and other parts of the Far East. In its traditional form acupuncture is a holistic approach to health and disease. It considers the effect stress and emotional states have on our physical health as much as it does physical trauma or environmental factors. In Chinese medical theory, illness is seen as an imbalance in the body's motivating energy, known as Qi. By inserting fine needles into the acupuncture points of the channels of energy (meridians) the acupuncturist can stimulate the bodies own healing response and restore equilibrium. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include infection, trauma, poor nutrition, substance abuse, hereditary factors, and exposure to climactic factors as well as emotional factors such as excessive anger, anxiety, fear or grief. Our aim at City Acupuncture is to treat the whole person, restoring the balance between the physical and emotional aspects of the individual. We strive to do this with care and understanding for all our patients. |
